Import existing data safely
Prepare, sample, validate, and reconcile an import before relying on it.
Prepare the source file
Remove duplicate rows, confirm date formats, and make currency codes explicit. Keep an unchanged copy of the original file for reference.
Choose the destination
Confirm the workspace and account before starting. Historical records should not be mixed into a test or unrelated workspace.
Map fields carefully
Match dates, amounts, currencies, accounts, categories, and notes to the corresponding Figena fields. Leave uncertain optional fields blank instead of guessing.
Test a small sample
Import a small, representative set first. Review positive and negative amounts, dates, categories, account balances, and duplicate behavior.
Reconcile the result
Compare imported totals with the source statement or report. Investigate differences before importing the remaining records.
Keep an import record
Record the source file name, import date, destination workspace, row count, and any excluded rows so future reviewers can understand the migration.
